Re: “Homeless State University

I dunno if you can plan around it. The rental agents leave the places open on Craig's list so folks keep paying that $20 application fee. The greed of PPM is unconscionable, the city needs to put their scans in check.

Re: “Eureka's Anti-Trump Protest 'Passionate but Peaceful'

Sorry 4 typos but I have to write fluff lists and read tarot cards on line thanks to teacher purges that scream ageism, privatized, Obama, education industrial complex and humiliation with lots of student loan DEBT I can't waste time proofreading for peeps who don't kniw what they're voting for or protesting against.

Re: “Suing Squires

While the neglect and lawlessness Squires demonstrates where his property is concerned is egregious, there's no way around the fact that finding a place here is impossible if you're not perfect on paper and temporary to maximize the )not slum lord but overly demanding) property managers who are every bit as amoral as Floyd Squires is. It's a rough pill to swallow but he's giving people an opportunity to rent when no one else will. If you got a foreclosure, live on a fixed income, have a bad credit score, have a part time job, a record... forget about getting a break in this county.
I understand that property owners have to protect their investments, but the tactics PPM uses are illegal and socially corrosive. The last few years have been harsh for people as lay offs, out sources, privatizers, tax atrocities, predatory loans, health care costs, insurance payments, everything conspires against us, particularly blue collar baby boomers being beat out of pensions.
The tenants in Floyds units are drug addicts and drunks becayse they are confronted by a bleak future and a grim present. They move into these dumps and they're dirty, full of vermin, mold, and falling apart. That tells you : YOU ARE GARBAGE, A NUISANCE, MARGINAL, Worthless.
Show me one rental Floyd owns that's not in bad condition. You can't say every single person he rents to is derelict. Randomly knock on doors tomorrow and you'll find meteculous apartments modestly decorated and a sober tenant , but you'll still see a leaky roof, bad plumbing, warped walls. Maybe some folks fix the place up and pay the high rent but most can't do either because they're underemployed, broke, depressed. The homeless population here is growing swiftly and they know they're a few steps away from sleeping in a doorway.
. It's sad to say but as the city snaps up Floyds crumbling kingdom, it's going to grow more desperate on the streets of Eureka. And Floyd will be dead before he stops living in his mansion, and he likes to duke it out so the city's self proclaimed heroes will have done more harm than good unless something is PRESENTLY being done to turn those seized properties into low cost housing for ex cons, drug addicts, welfare mothers, debtors, disabled and elderly people these other unchecked a-holes discriminate against.
