My husband and I have traveled all over the state of California for work (power lines, not pot), and we have never seen anything like this, so don't fool yourselves into thinking this is a problem everywhere. Sure, the Bay Area has its hot spots, and I heard one person compare this area to Berkeley, but there is one enormous distinction; in comparison, this is a very small community. This problem should be easier to deal with simply because of size, but instead, it rages out of control. I was shocked when I arrived here just a week ago, and even more shocked to have already experienced a theft in that short amount of time (my husband's bike was stolen from right under our RV at the local RV park).
The immense beauty of the beaches and redwoods is a major selling point for tourism and has the potential to bring tons of revenue into your community, but that will never happen if your community cannot get the crime and drug problem under control. I expect this from places like Stockton and Bakersfield, but not out of "quaint" northern California. It's so sad and disturbing.
