Fear of death
is but one of many
Fear of bankruptcy
Fear of public speaking
Fear of frogs

We step out smiling
Proving we can whistle
As we amble along the abyss

The boardwalk of life
Beside the dark sea
Broken rails, loose planks
Sneaker waves, riptides
Horizon melting into void

Glancing the other way
We see ice cream stands
Carousels, souvenirs
A glimpse of green hills
At the end of an alley
