Re: “Unhappy Camp

Wish you had shown the other side of PARRYs Market, where a 118 foot mural shows Happy Camp, from the native treasures, to mining. to kids swimming in the Clear Creek swimmin' hole! There is no sceintific evidence that recreational dredging hurts fish at all. KSW has no intellectual integrity when they claim that it hurts spawning because everyone knows the dredges aren't even in the water when spawning occurs. There is no scientific proof that taking out the dams will have any but the hatchery fish from the hatchery above the dam go up there to spawn and they are beat and dying when they arrive that far. The Boy Scouts of Happy Camp have gone out and pulled noxious weeds and improved elk habitat. The school kids survey fisheries and do commuity service projects to make this a better place. Churches provide programs for the youth since activities are sparse. But ecoextremists from elsewhere secretly propose this way to take out home and jobs! The Monument plan wouldn't even be known if it hadn't been leaked to the press in February! Even when the ELECTED county officials asked KSW to tell about the plan they want to impose on us all, they refused the invitation to particiate in a public dialog. How can we trust them? Those people worry about their trails upkeep---what are they doing to help that problem. We don't have funds to clear a path through the woods for you while you close our roads to where we have gone for generations. they say there will be no change in grazing which is almost nonexistant, hunting, fishing, firewood Christmas trees but all that has changed on the monument that has one road through it! And this is supposed to be all consolidated. There is no housing available without months or years of waiting lists. Our schools are struggling and our children have no music or humanities. We have bright kids who can make something of themselves. We have excellent teachers who want them to fulfill their potential. Oour young people get so deep in debt trying to get a college education when no one in their family has ever gone before that they have to drop out after a few years. Forest Service jobs, which they say we should be happy with, have been cut over 40% on KNF. Unemployment is 30%. Only the speculators can buy places and let them sit and rot. But the life along the Klamath River is still the best in the world. We survive. We debate and dialog with those who will---because we want solutions to the problems. Sixty people gtathered to help keep kids off alcohol and other drugs. We see the beauty around us every day! The beauty of the town people--grandparents, families and children who work together and share a love for each other, and our town. We bloom in lthe place we are planted despire the hardships!
