Volunteer Center of the Redwoods and RSVP are working together with SCRAP Humboldt and Zero Waste Humboldt on a fun, creative and informative community project. Zero Waste Humboldt wants to spread the word about aiming for the goal of zero waste. They have adopted the Zebra as their symbol and community members are invited to help assemble 8 life-sized, green-striped, papier-mâchéd zebra heads mounted on large cardboard tubes for carrying in local parades. Onlookers at these public events will be reminded about the importance of where we put our waste, what we can do with it, and how to reduce the amount we produce. Collaborating with SCRAP Humboldt, a community workshop is scheduled for June 11th at SCRAP Humboldt at 101 H Street in Arcata from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers should come ready to sit or stand to paint on layers of papier-mâché. All materials will be provided, including refreshments. For more information, contact Maureen McGarry at RSVP at 442-3763, or mmcgarry@a1aa.org.
