Re: “Murder in Arcata

This is a hard read. Unfortunately, racism/tribalism is still alive in the United States, as much as we would hope it is not. It is mindlessly stubborn, and even today some racists find their comfort zone down there on the bottom rungs of the ladder of consciousness. One thing we can do is expose them and call them on it.

Re: “Bomb Throwers and Bridge Builders

Remarkably accurate account of the country's politics and constituents. The loss of moderates, those able to make necessary compromises, is rightly compared to a hemorrhage. Stasis rules now.

No, the founders did not anticipate that gridlock would become a partisan political strategy. They assumed that participants in the government would naturally want the people's government to continue. This is no longer true.

"The mischiefs of faction," now takes the modern form of calculated treason from within against state and national governments by a cabal of embedded rightists, religionists, and opportunists. With the help of Billionaires, (who have a financial interest in the outcome,) and a clueless minority electorate, (go ahead ask them,) they've bought the government, but can they keep it? For some while, yes.
