Ok. I am ok.

Wondering when the other shoe will drop.
The hammer will fall
Wondering while my chicken cooks with rice
Why others need a dime.
A quart of milk.

Ok. I am ok.
Wondering when the fist will fall.
At the hand that never strikes but may
Wondering with my back to the wall
Why others bleed.
And stay.

Ok. I am ok.
Wondering at my little girl.
Too quiet
Wondering at the angel at my feet
Why others cower.
Wondering. Wondering.

Ok. I am ok.
Wondering at the world. At me.
As I eat my chicken and rice.

How can I?
How can I?

My soul is burned in hidden places.
Marked with faint, but heavy scars.
But for grace,
There is no pain
No hunger.

How can I?
How can I?
I am ok.
