Natural Selection

Ruminations and evolutionary psychology

Accompanied Darwin on his five-year voyage

To observe our world and search for evidence

That might help explain how we came to be.

His curse and blessing colored each observation,

As he collected rocks and made entries into a journal

That carried the weight of his work and

Hopes of a species that thinks to survive.

Maybe these solipsistic fits of misery

Fill a purpose larger than ourselves

By enabling the intellectual excellence

That helps us all move forward.

When we turn off the television

And listen closely for the sounds

Of strange reptiles scampering

Along distant coastal shores,

The voyage continues.
