Muhammad Ali

When: Sept. 19-22, 8 & 10 p.m. 2021
The new PBS documentary series by Ken Burns, "Muhammad Ali," premieres on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on KEET-TV and continues nightly through Wednesday, September 22. In conjunction with this series, Word Humboldt, in partnership with KEET-TV, Ink People Center for the Arts and the Humboldt County Library, presents "Speed and Grace,” an online poetry workshop series taking place in October. Workshops will be on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. To register, email and indicate which workshop(s) you would like to attend. 10/7-Week 1: Guest poet Billy Tuggle of Chicago will lead a workshop focusing on the many messages of Ali and his quote – “The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.” 10/14-Week 2: Host Susanna Gibson will focus on how inspiring Ali has become and the legacy he has left using the quote – “The Service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” 10/21 -Week 3: Host Wil Gibson will focus on heroes, hypocrisy and contradictions - Ali was an advocate for peace who gained fame as a fighter. This workshop is inspired by Ali’s quote – “It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.” 10/28 -Week 4: Host Wil Gibson will be focusing on Ali's myth and mystique, and his quote. “To be a great champion, you must believe you are the best. If you're not, pretend you are.”
