I just left the cafeteria and watched Hannah Larkin's speech as well as the unveiling of her mural. Her speech sent the message of not giving up despite the challenges ahead and that being a part of something bigger can drive a person past their perceived limitations. I happened to be standing near the mural and had the opportunity to help unveil it. The faces in the audience were full of awe and amazement with at least 70% with mouths open as they absorbed the images for the first time. Many parents started to point at different panels as familiar images came forward.
I am truley impressed with this young lady as she is a true representation of what the EAST class teaches students. Eureka City Schools is the only district to offer the EAST class in California.
