I agree with "Offended" existing Catholic Nun Communities have a historical contribution for bringing the gospel of love for all. Today the communities are in decline and becoming aged, yet they still continue with the vocation of service. It's one thing to lampoon organizations but to denigrate the act of selflessness, hope and love is akin to denying the existence of faith.
Change in social behavior for me can sometimes be related to, as pushing against the tide. A kenetic energy that scientifically, could be harnessed to provide beneficial results for humanity. The mechanics for such an accomplishment can cause difficulty and sacrifice to those who seek the change. But without vision and determination, how can we progress to becoming better?
Humboldt County has a history of being able to address challenges that are amplified because of our isolation. We have the ability to innovate solutions and this problem of lack of testing materials presents one of those barriers for testing capacities. Pick up the gauntlet Humboldt and lead the way for not only our needs but also for our State.
I was completely for the Terra-Gen project until I read some of the changes made for environmental concerns. The one that concerns me is the transmission lines crossing the Eel River. I cannot believe that FOTER (Friends of the Eel River) have discounted the Horizontal Direct burial of those lines under the Eel River as opposed to hanging the high power lines across and over the River. This is crazy! the technology for direct burial will not disturb the river course nor will the chance of wildland fires be a danger for the area. The strength of the bonded conduit has been proven and one possible reason Terra-Gen didn't object is because of the higher cost of installation. For people who are concerned for ascetically pleasing utilities, looking at high tension power line towers hanging over clear cut swaths of timberland won't be any more pleasing than the windmills themselves.
I'm in! Count me as one who has been and always will be a proponent of sustainable wind, and solar energy. I've seen hundreds of "Giant" wind turbines stationed in farms across the water in Europe and the data of dead floating sea birds caused by them hasn't been mentioned. Why not? Those turbines have been flying for years. We know how many dead and injured birds and mammals have floated ashore from spilled oil! This is crazy, we can mitigate the time the turbines operate and having one third of the power Humboldt County uses generated by this operation is tremendous. I see the beauty of a fleet of turbines standing on our ridges instead of the ugly dangerous silhouette of only one off shore oil platform.
Just like food booths set up at Reggae, would there be possibility for LOCAL Cannabis farmers to have an open Farmers Market at Reggae?
