Watch brilliant Middle East films and discuss the Middle East with HSU Professor Leena Dallasheh. Baran (2001) by Majid Majidi This film offers a glimpse to the lives of Afghani refugees in Tehran (then over a million, now almost 3 million). The romantic film tells the story of Lateef, a young Iranian man, and Baran, the young Afghan refugee girl, who disguises as boy to work at a construction site after her father is injured and can no longer support his family.
