Re: “Arcata Council to Mull Gun Safety Ordinance Proposed by NPA Students

I can tell City Manager Diemer what will motivate people to report stolen guns. If they don't report them stolen they can explain why they were not the culprits in the crimes committed with the guns they did not report. The city also could draft the ordinance to allow a violator one free pass without penalty.

Re: “Arcata Police, Witnesses Describe How a Fight Erupted into Gunfire

No video? The PLAZA CAMS, everybody! There is one right across the street facing exactly where this happened. There is another at the Jacoby's Storehouse too.

It's 2017 and still no body cams?

...and 63 million people voted for Trump of which 55-64% still agree with his actions, conduct and policies that include three alt-right advisers in his closest circle (Sebastian Gorka, Steven Miller and Steve Bannon [well not any more for this Steve]).
While many of "us" did not vote and 3.5 million more voted for Hillary or someone other than Trump, it is almost as bad when others sit out elections or stay silent or soothe their souls with, "that is not us."

This is a brilliant commentary. You bet this is who we are as a nation. The American Civil War is not over. If anything the Confederacy has gained strength with its allies in the White House and Congress.

Re: “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana and Firearms?

That bill is long overdue and it will probably never happen on a federal level. But it can happen on a state level. Marijuana is till a controlled substance under state law. That should have been included in Prop 64 legislation, but like many other missives in Prop 64 it was not addressed.

Re: “Nurses, Stat

It is a shame that our public officials have done little to address the nursing shortage and for that matter an overall medical professional shortage in Humboldt County. It is only getting worse as more and more medical professionals are retiring or leaving the county. We need an innovative program to lure nurses and doctors and support personnel to our community. This is becoming, if not already, a public health crisis. The excuse that, "it's just as bad in other rural communities" is tiresome and a shirk of responsibility. Our public officials should prioritize public health and attend a seminar or two on the subject rather than sticking their heads in the sand.
