Re: “Fortuna Union High School District Will Continue In-Person Classes

"FUHSD is requesting you follow the protocols and advisories of the county and state to ensure our ability to remain open for our students."

What am I missing Mr. Ellebrecht? Didn't Ms. Frankovich, our county health chief issue an ADVISORY that all schools go to remote learning?

Re: “Frankovich Addresses 'Disheartening' Email Rift with HSU President

Where are the mayors of Arcata, Eureka and the Humboldt County Association of Governments on this issue? All along everyone says they will follow the recommendation of the health department. I guess that is when the health department recommended opening up things. Now that the health department's recommendation includes restrictions, the heck with following those recommendations.

Re: “Humboldt COVID-19 Cases Climb to 14, with Two Additional Positives Announced Today

I would be grateful if a local news organization would do some in-depth reporting on the Health Department's daily stats. Repeating almost exactly what any of us can read on the local health department's site is unhelpful. It would be nice to know what's going on with the 38 students bussed to our community from the hot spots of SF and LA. What precautions or measures has the health department deployed to track these students?

The same questions come to mind about the tour group who came home from an international location. Have the authorities tracked the students and their contacts? I have questions about where we stand in comparison to other similar communities. Are we ahead or behind on testing? Do we need more testing to stay ahead of the curve?

There are probably many more issues that your news organizations can investigate. For now, though, I feel that your site, as well as all of the other local sites, are providing no information beyond what I can get off the county's public information sites.

Re: “SECOND UPDATE: County Announces Fifth COVID-19 Case

Just when I was hoping that we in Humboldt may have control over the virus, we have a third case from a returning international "group." It sounds like the group is from here reading the Health Department's alert. Today, the Department is tracking, testing, treating, or quarantining other members of the group. Is the Department able to reach the other people who had contacted the members of the group over the last four days since the group returned Friday?

A private lab did this test. It took four days for the Health Department to know about it!

Re: “UPDATE: Arcata Council Directs Staff to Bring Back Gun Safety Ordinance

I can tell City Manager Diemer what will motivate people to report stolen guns. If they don't report them stolen they can explain why they were not the culprits in the crimes committed with the guns they did not report. The city also could draft the ordinance to allow a violator one free pass without penalty.

Re: “Arcata Police, Witnesses Describe How a Fight Erupted into Gunfire

No video? The PLAZA CAMS, everybody! There is one right across the street facing exactly where this happened. There is another at the Jacoby's Storehouse too.

It's 2017 and still no body cams?

While many of "us" did not vote and 3.5 million more voted for Hillary or someone other than Trump, it is almost as bad when others sit out elections or stay silent or soothe their souls with, "that is not us."
