When: Oct. 15-Nov. 13 2020
www.kineticgrandchampionship.com/kinetic-kouture
Kinetic Kouture: Fashion with a Re-Purpose is a fashion show combining creative reuse of materials and haute couture into runway fashion and fun, competing for the title of Trashionista Gloriosa. The "trashion" attire is created with as many upcycled materials as possible, saving waste from the landfill and challenging some of our community's finest artists and tailors to put their creativity and resourcefulness to the test — exhibiting how one person's trash can be transformed into high-fashion treasure. “Ultimately, upcycling items into wearable art is kind of my thing, so an opportunity to step up my game and make something worthy of a runway is a great motivator,” says Trashionista Gloriosa 2019 and 2004 Rutabaga Queen Monica Topping. “Amongst other things, I make glass beads for earrings out of recycled liquor bottles, but working with fabric is always one of my challenges. ” Last year, Topping won her title with a dress and accessories made from Crown Royal whiskey bags, and adds that she’s grateful to her selfless friends and family for saving the materials for her. To enter designs for this year’s event, participants need to submit between three and 10 photos of each design to Kinetic Universe between Thursday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, and fill out a short questionnaire about their creations. Designers may enter multiple creations. Submission photos will be posted online, and for the first time ever, spectator votes purchased via Kinetic donation will determine the 2020 Trashionista Gloriosa, who will will receive 10% of funds raised by votes, a perpetual trophy to keep and add onto until next year's event, their outfit displayed in the windows of Kinetic Museum Eureka, the satisfaction of knowing that their art brought joy to the community, and so much Glory. Additional Glorious judges, to be announced, will evaluate the entries based on amount of material recycled, craftsmanship, function, and Kinetic thrills for other prizes. Spectators will vote by donation between Thursday, Oct. 15 and Friday, Nov. 13. Visit www.kineticgrandchampionship.com/kinetic-kouture for the entry form, vote purchase, and more information. Proceeds raised support Kinetic Universe. §
