Re: “Meet Dan Johnson

Clearly the main issue here is that some people reacted poorly to a different plagiarism incident 10 years ago.

Re: “Manny Machado Named KIEM News Director

One can only hope that KIEM will now rehire Sabrina Gautier. It's just never been the same without her.

Re: “Marijuana Grow Op Bust on Pine Hill This Morning

Hi, it's me, Kevin, the bad, bad person.

  1. Regarding law enforcement cannabis grow press releases. We post them when we get them, just like every other local news site. Then, if additional sourcing is needed and/or available, we do a story. Once the paper comes out, the post is revised with the original reporting added. You can find many examples of this on the website. If you can think of a better way to go about it, I'd love to hear it.

  2. For those who argue that we shouldn't forward information provided by police, a few things. These are public documents. Don't you want to know what the cops are doing in terms of entering private property and detaining citizens, for whatever reason? Also, were we to arbitrarily suppress these public documents, one can only imagine the cries of "cover up." At least with regard to us, you are always free to provide an alternate version of events or other criticism for publication.

  3. For the gazillionth time slander is spoken. Libel is printed. If you are libeled by any print publication, obviously you should demand a correction at the very least.

  4. The above blowback is nearly identical to that which we have received in the past for doing stories on corporate environmental pollution, irresponsible land use and development proposals, even cases of well-connected mucky-mucks embezzling funds. Special interests don't like their shit reported, never have and never will. But that's what newspapers do.

  5. I rarely get through a week without multiple readers telling me how grateful they are that we provide the coverage of the cannabis follies – the busts, the dispensaries, the energy use, the environmental damage, the evolving legal picture, etc. So I guess we'll keep doing it.

  6. After covering the horrendous distortions that prohibition has and continues to create, my oft-expressed wish is for a rational approach to cannabis, and coherence in municipal, county, state and federal law. That would mean ending the insane, reefer-madness prohibition, obviously removing it from Schedule 1, and accepting the fact that MILLIONS of citizens wish to use this essentially harmless substance. Until that happens, and part of helping compel change, is reporting in detail the damage and strife that our ridiculous laws are causing. This, as much or more than the many pro-legalization editorials (like the ones I have been writing since I was in college) ought to wake people up to the idiocy of the current legal scenario.

I'm not sure it does any good to provide this sort of feedback, but there it is. If you feel like talking about it, e-mail or call me at the office. Thanks.

Re: “Dairy Diary

Right, because there has been no controversy on this subject up until Carrie's story came along.
