Indiana summers, passionate night skies, heat lightning, fire flies, trill of whip-poor-wills wafting. :) Thank you.
Kudos for the all the whale photos and this. Please keep us informed when cause of death is determined--many need to know.
Luke Andrew, thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the article—I, too, take much inspiration from my students and their work ethic. Dear Ms. Lamb, Though I have a Master’s degree in English (with an emphasis in teaching English as a second language) from HSU, I did not work for the University prior to my teaching for Humboldt College in China. I’m not certain of the numbers breakdown with respect to the program’s operating budget, but I can assure you neither I nor my Humboldt College colleagues got rich, as we were paid much less than if we had each been teaching three courses at Humboldt State. But last September when the opportunity arose, teaching in the program made the most economic sense for me especially given how scarce teaching positions are in Humboldt County. That said, the program’s low overhead actually helps bring in funds to HSU. It was an amazing experience, and I am honored and proud to have had the opportunity to work with such great young minds. Dr. Dugaw, I heard your name mentioned among the Chinese students at graduation this year. They likewise have much respect for you.
Re: “The Best”
Hey, Bob! It was fun talking with you on the phone last Sunday--you'll have to tell me again the name of that foreign film you suggested, really would like to watch it. Just wanted to add a bit here as I'm not so sure it's clear: like the talented and super down to earth, Chris Parreira, I too, believe I can make a go of music professionally. And I am. :) Though we didn't get to it in the interview, I also have an up coming mini-tour via Greyhound bus (there's a story in that for sure), and next summer the plan is to tour the south east U.S. For now, it may be just me and the six string, but I am putting together a backing band, slowly but surely-- takes time & the right folks. It'll all come together, so I keep writing and singing and believing in what my music has to offer, share, inspire. Thanks, Bob, for the great write up--your words help both Chis & I in this world of emerging musical artists. :) With much confidence, Josephine Johnson
