Re: “Disquiet on the Mobile Home Front

Ms. Mosher, we live in a country of free property rights, or at least we were founded on this very important right. You want to trample on the rights of these property owners by using untrue, and/or exaggerated reasons.

Mobile home owners who rent in a park, did so knowing they are renters. They knew they were subject to rent increases by management and still chose to live there. If the rent is too high, move your home or sell it in place. Two choices available. More choice than a stick built homeowner has.

Homeowners rent a lot more than a plot of dirt. If you really believe this, then you and every mobile home owner in the park are solely responsible for providing utilities to your home, lot landscaping, fencing, clubhouse, pool, streets, storage area, drainage, common areas, etc. Oh yeah, management provides all this to you.

Rent control transfers the value of the land the park owner owns to the tenants who have no right to it. Over time, the mobile homes sell for a premium and the tenants pocket the ill gotten gains. Have you seen any jurisdiction under long term rent control where the tenants who received this windfall believe that they owe the premium back to the park owner when they sell. Hell No! So, why would you lambast park owners for making a profit above your determination of what is fair when mobile home owners all over the state do this also?
