Re: “Salzman Sues Arcata Over Panhandling Law

I must say that the most damaging blight on Arcata I have seen in my short time here is the overwhelmingly aggressive, drunk and drug addled transients who come here with the sole intent and purpose of begging on Arcata streets.

Arcata has become a marked destination for panhandling--and around that, even more so than the marijuana trade, has risen violent crime and a general feeling of fear among the locals. Just try walking on the plaza after dark... I'm not a small guy, and I get worried most times.

Even if Ord.1399 isn't the right answer, something must be done to curb this tide.

We're not talking about families or individuals who have lost their homes due to the financial crash--these people intentionally recreate themselves into violent, aggressive, dirty, anti-community, anti-social miscreants for the sole purpose of living without jobs and feeding their addictions on the coins and dollars of productive members of our society.

Re: “Massive Mudslide Envelops Hwy. 101

Seems to me like this is an area that needs far more immediate attention than places like Richardson Grove...

How about, instead of CalTrans doing unnecessary road widenings, they spend more time making sure slide prone areas like this are safe for us?

Re: “Los Hechados

1: "undocumented worker" means illegal immigrant. If local rental agencies and companies are using them knowingly, which it is obvious that they are, they should be prosecuted and the illegals sent back to where they came from.

2: Not only are the workers screwing up the local economy by not paying taxes, Sun Valley Farms are most certainly not paying their taxes properly either.

There are many laws being broken here. 10 People in a house made for 3 is a code violation--and most likely a safety hazard to the people living there. Knowingly harboring illegal immigrants is against the law as well. Meaning the rental agency and the man whose name is on the lease are guilty. I sympathize with wanting a better life. That’s why I moved here. But do it legally. If you break the law coming into the country, what is to stop you from breaking other laws? I don’t care what race or from what country an illegal comes from—send them back and let them enter legally. And prosecute those who harbor, employ, lie for/about and hide those here illegally.

Re: “Low Tension

I like how this is titled "LOW Tension" but Elan's letter states, clearly, there is "NO Tension".
