Re: “Interested Parties

So what is the point of your story Osborn? That conservatives are not allowed to donate to candidates? The reason that Brady/Newman/Jaeger are receiving a lot of contributions from a lot of people is that they have a lot of enthusiastic support. It sure looks like Glass/Kuhnel/Vallee do not.

Re: “Schoolyard Scrap

Tyson is wrong. I am a member of the Eureka School board & I was in on the meetings between ECS & the city. We did not receive a "formal proposal in the first part of August". At our August 20 meeting, Tyson handed us a paper with the numbers on it. He was very careful to say TWICE "This is NOT a proposal" and then said something about how it is just some ideas on paper. We told him the numbers look good to us, lets get moving on a formal offer & get it wrapped up. Months passed by. The school board directed our superintendent to follow up & see what the delay was. The superintendent told us that he has called & e-mailed Tyson a number of times & had not received any response. Finally, C/R in January (after we waited on the city for almost five months) gave us an offer & were energetic on moving forward. The city had been dragging their feet for a year and a half. It had been five months since we thought we were finally going to close this sale. Only then did we give up on the city & accept C/R's proposal. Back in 2005, the former superintendent Jim Scott, moved to close Jefferson School. I strongly argued against it. I questioned his numbers on any supposed savings as his numbers were grossly overstated. I made the point that if we closed Jefferson elementary that we would then be subject to ADA rules & the cost of re-opening an elementary school there again would be prohibitive. I still think it was a wrong move to close the school. But the board voted 3-2 to close it. I'm sorry that some of the neighbors are opposed to C/R moving there. I think C/R will be a better neighbor than they expect.
I also think the opponents are also holding out hope that an elementary school will re-open there someday, but even a charter or private school could never afford to do so.

Re: “Officers and Gentlemen

This whole thing is ridiculous. The committee will be dominated by anti cop types who always seem to have time for this nonsense. Have you noticed, that ever since the run of shootings by the EPD, nobody has dared to shoot shotguns, charge at with butcher knives, point flare guns at or attacked any officers?

Re: “CASA is Broken

I was a CASA advocate for over 3 1/2 years. My case was two brothers & their sister had a female CASA. I agree with De Rooy in that the system is broken. The social worker was completly incompetant & wanted to take the children away from their grandmother (who was doing the best she could & provided a stable home) and give them to the father who was trouble with a capital "T" & living in his van. But I disagree with De rooy because I know the good CASA can do. Judge Thomas listened to me & after more than a year of testifying in court ruled in favor of the grandmother. CASA saved those children from an awful future.
