An historic Council of Women who I hope will be an historic Council for Climate Action as well. The women of the world need Arcata's women leaders to lead the way in a climate changing reality. Ready to work hard with these women to make Arcata a model town for the future.
I saw the show on Saturday night and appreciate Pat Bitton's review and her full disclosure. I was reminded so much of the reality of elder care in a retirement home where both my mother and father lived until they died. Bingo and birthday entertainment were highlights. I so enjoyed Scott Malcolm whose performance was so realistic to me, and Kathryn Cesarz and Jess March shined. Watching their Dell'Arte trained talents at work were my favorite parts of the show. May we all continue to find humor and meaning and friendship in our dotage. Right, Pat?
In our climate changing reality, the need to adapt our eating habits can include not cooking with gas, when possible, and having neighborhood "feeds" where at least once a week, we can cook and eat collectively at one central locale. And maybe we eat the same simple meal, more or less, most days and only mix it up on weekends or a couple of days each week. I am all about eating local yet I have chosen to forego salmon for awhile as the population needs to rebound more.
Jennifer, this is so potently and poignantly said. Thank you so much for the magnificence of your seriousness that is equally matched with your terrific humorous pieces. You know when to wear the right writer's hat. My mantra from the beginning of this pandemic has been "I don't want to get it because I don't want to give it." Thank you for publicly sharing how I feel. Peace and love.
Get Michael Moore involved. The Minor Theater is historic and maybe Moore who wants to bring back downtown movie theaters. Thsi theater is the longest operating. Deserves national attention.

Re: “It's Time to Buckle Up”
You are so right about that "island" the Cal Poly Humboldt administrators have chosen to create for themselves. Arrogant behavior from my modest perspective as a citizen and tenant in Arcata who is very concerned that the ambitious plans to build enrollment and buildings for the university will harm the whole community and then the university itself will fail in attracting the people they want to come here. The university president needs to lead the way in uniting with Arcata town leadership and beyond to ensure we create a livable future for everyone who resides in this unique place called Humboldt County.
