Re: “Leaving

I left Southern Humboldt for Sonoma County in 2002, for many reasons, after living there for 35 years. The culture shock was so intense it was hard to leave the house sometimes; it was so hard to walk down a street and not see a familiar face. It almost seemed like people spoke a different language. And red lights! Nine years and I still have no patience for red lights. I still have a home and property there, as well as most of my family and my best friends, but can't quite come up with a reason to come back. There are no jobs in SoHum with the pay and benefits I get here. I know there are tweakers here too, but they are not as visible and in your face as they are driving through Garberville or Fortuna. Even though SoHum will always be home, I will probably be here until I retire or something compelling brings me back.
