Luna and Me is a picture book for ages 4 and up based on the story of environmental activist, Julia “Butterfly” Hill, who endured a two-year-long tree-sit to save a thousand-year-old redwood tree named Luna. This beloved tree, Luna, resides right here in Humboldt County. Kostecki-Shaw says, “Julia’s peaceful activism and dedication to serving our earth inspires me deeply. I wanted to make a picture book that would bring her courageous story to children. Her message is simple: each and every one of us can make a difference.” Kostecki-Shaw’s website is Sanctuary Forest is a non-profit land trust based out of Whitethorn, Southern Humboldt County, CA. Since Julia “Butterfly” Hill descended the famous tree-sit in Luna, Sanctuary Forest has been entrusted to care-take The Luna Preserve.
