Re: “Capleton's Red Fox Tavern Show Canceled ... but the fyah's still comin' (UPDATED, NEW VENUE)

If you were really upset about it you would protest the concert attendees, some of your fellow community members, instead of interfering with this man who seems to be respectful of our wishes. He doesn't use the visits here to promote or perform hateful rhetoric. Intolerance is rampant in Jamaica, yet I don't see any widespread boycotts on Jamaica at large. I see a lot of grandstanding here, big on ideas, short on action. Harassing a local business is not big action. I would have liked to see the LGBT community buy all the tix and turn the show into a make-out festival. If Capleton was truly an irredeemable bigot he would probably never return. Love is always the answer. By all accounts, Cap's intolerance stems from his religion, something we Americans are familiar with. Aren't we still fighting for gay rights here?

Re: “Best Local Beer

Steelhead XP is better from a keg, bottles come out a bit more malty than I like generally. If they produced Windshield Owl in 6-packs I think more people would know it's a better ale, plus it supports a local wildlife charity. Cheers.

Re: “L.A. Times Says Arcata's Panhandling Ordinance "Goes Too Far"

Westwood used to be a dirty shithole...the creek is a shooting gallery and booze alley. When the garbage spilled out over a bike path in a waist high mound I couldn't take it anymore, and hauled out over 1000 lbs (no joke) of trash over 3 years. Civic pride is at an all time low, weeds and trash are everywhere. No one really gives a shit and the "dirtbag royalty" likes it that way. Just sayin it can be done.

Re: “Fastest Route Between Eureka and Arcata Finally Determined!

I often drive a loop, inner bay one way, outer bay the other. Unless I'm in a hurry, then I just hit cruise control up the corridor. When I do pass through Manila, I tend to drive as slow as traffic will let me. The actual town part, with cross traffic is not too long. I see no reason not to slow down. You save probably less than a minute of time driving 55-60 rather than a much safer 45 for that half mile. As far as scenery I have say the Manila route wins hands down. I don't care for eucalyptus...they grow funny here, get humungous and fall over, or explode when they burn. The view from the bridges is world-class, even if you can only catch a glimpse or two while avoiding other people crossing. The bay side of the Lanphere area is inspiring, as well as the sloughs. Once in awhile you see these incredible static layers of fog hovering maybe 10 feet off the ground in long patches. Don't tell me the Bracut lot or the Mid City merry-go-round is more attractive LOL

Re: “The Case of the Missing Hondas

Saw four people with flashlights in one of the parking lot areas on Heather, early this A.M. Lots of people's leases are up at the end of May or June and it attracts a lot of attention. Time to start using the steering wheel lock again. I agree about the auto door locks. I locked my keys in the car once and was amazed how easy it was to pop it with a hooked wire.
