It's like we're all adopted

It's like we're all adopted
(even the dogs, of course)
Scot from Korea
Lonnie from foster care
and me from all those homes all those homes
all those homes
All we really ever wanted was one good forever home
the kind with warmth and love and cookies baking
And a second floor with bedrooms painted bright colors
And toys and books on the shelves and frying pans hanging on the wall above the stove
And a flower garden and tomatoes growing on vines next to sweet peas
And hugs and someone to crawl next to in the middle of the dark when we wake up sweating and crying
from the nightmares
and a mom and dad who love each other and want us

It's like we're all adopted
Even Superman
