Hostage Shares Story of Captivity

How to cope with loneliness and isolation will be explored at Lifetree Café on Sunday, November 19 at 7 p.m.   The program, titled “Lonely: Secrets Learned in Solitary Confinement,” features a filmed interview with Tom Sutherland, a man who was kidnapped and held by Muslim radicals for nearly six and a half years.   “I was deprived of conversation and companionship, but there was very little I could do about it,” says Sutherland. “When there isn’t anyone else there, you simply have to resort to what’s in your own head.”   During the program Lifetree participants will have the opportunity tell about times they’ve encountered feelings of loneliness in their own lives.   Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Café is located on the corner of Union and 13 th St, Arcata. Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual, comfortable setting.
