Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

“Greece Remembered" Art Show

When: Sept. 30-Oct. 11 2019
Louise Bacon-Ogden is inviting you to the Redwood Art Association’s small gallery #1 to view her art works created from a trip to Greece in the Fall of 2018. The show is called “Greece Remembered.” The Gallery is located at 603 F Street (corner of 6 th ) in Eureka. The current dates for this exhibition is Sept. 18 th through October 11 th . The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 5:00 PM. Arts! Alive will be on Saturday, October 5 th from 6 to 9PM. The tour to Greece was led by Dr. John Hewitt, plein air watercolorist, and Leland Yialelis who previously lived and worked in Greece for a decade. Twenty people, artists and partners, spent 3 weeks touring Athens, Ioaninna, Marathon Bay, Blue Caves and Shipwreck Island, Kalamata and other historic or interesting sites. The group saw famous ruins, tombs, a ghost town, museums, islands, a lake, beaches and a gorge. The tours included opportunities to paint with John demonstrating water coloring techniques. Most evenings offered a chance for critiquing. For Louise, often the temptation of exploration won over a painting session. However, sketching and photographing each location would be tucked away until later. The results of on-the-spot experimentation (what water coloring is according to Louise) and studio work produced over 2 dozen pieces of artwork. Come on in and “take a tour” of Greece with Louise during October’s Arts! Alive on Saturday October 5th from 6-9 PM.
