It's good to know that Wal-Mart, a company that kills local businesses and profits by exploiting its employees, has now been sanctified by the Christian religion, which exploits its superstition-believers with fear-mongering and espousal of hatred toward people they don't like. What a partnership!
When I read of the blessing of Wal-Mart in the Journal (Blog Jammin', June 14), I had to look to be sure I wasn't reading a "News of the Weird" column. But no, this was for real and the preacher did actually say, in so many words, that a corporation that is faithful and puts God first gets blessed by God. I guess that's not such a stretch in a country whose Supreme Court has declared that corporations are people and their money is speech. Orwell's vision of "1984" has truly arrived.
I have never shopped at Wal-Mart and I never will, but I'd be really disappointed if I missed the day that Jesus came back to pick up a few pieces of cheap crap at our new Wal-Mart store.

I read in the 14 June Journal that pastor Jeff Beltz of the Hydesville Community Church lead a blessing over the new Wal-Mart at its opening. He structured his blessing in accordance with an employee organization chart, starting at the bottom and working his way to the top. He concluded as follows; "Father, please help the top leaders lead like Christ would lead."
Now I don't know just how much significance I would give to a prayer over a new Wal-Mart, but I, and I believe a whole lot of others, would say the pastor's efforts would be better served if he took this same blessing both to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. because, as best as I can tell, those are places where our leaders are truly lost and definitely in need of some form of divine guidance.
