Re: “Tough on Prayer?

What concerns me as a resident of Eureka, is the proliferation of half/way houses in Eureka that are promoting religion.
When Teen Challenge (misnomer, mostly adults on probation) came to town, the then Community Development Director sat in their revival meeting clapping his hands and saying: "Yes, Jesus". It did not matter to him that they work the participants for free and use our welfare services. It did not matter to him that they were taking work from our population. These people come from out of town and Teen Challenge was charging $13.00 an hr. for them. No employee in town could put a person on the payroll that cheap.
We have the Mission, a religious organization and now the Catholic Charities.
If the religious issue is clouding the judgment of those in power, then they should be recalled. Eureka is drawing in undesirable people, our crime rate is one of the highest in the nation. The city looks like a graveyard for empty store fronts. Good for those filing the lawsuit against the Mayor.

Re: “Homeless Need Us

I notice all of you do gooders don't live in Eureka. Why don't you have all this goodness and shelters down in Honeydew or would that hurt you marijuana farming? Cedillo the writer of Senate Bill 2 also tried to put a bill through to open the California and Mexico border. He also tried to get a bill through for all the illegal Mexicans in California to have driver's licenses. We in Eureka are saturated with half way houses. I own property near where Chinn wants to put her shelter. Believe me when I tell you many of us don't want it and have the means to stop it. We cleaned up a high crime area and we are not going to let it go backwards.

Re: “Eureka Resolves to Reaffirm Commitment to Create Jobs

When Chris K. was a councilperson in Eureka, I gave him an article from a financial magazine. A town in Germany, broke as Eureka, went to their local college. A partnership was formed. They then went out to every corporation in the world that would fit into their environment and presented a package of what the city could do for them. The bottom line was: Come to our city, we will educate and train the personnel you need in our college. We will give you tax breaks. This city is now very successful.

Re: “Picking a Bohn

I was taught as a child never to touch anythingwet, it could have germs and make you sick.

I have followed that advise and would nevershake hands with the slimy looking Rex Bohn, Matthew Owen or his wife Virginia Bass.

Re: “Waste Water

Go to March 1, 2001 in the North Coast Journal. Cover article Eureka's unsanitary sewers. Compare it with today's article. Mr. Tyson was quoted as saying the city had money in the reserves for the Martin Slough Interceptor. Compare everything with this current article. As to proposition 218 taking away the senior discount, it definitely calls out for fair share. Helping lower income people can come from the general fund and shouldn't apply to just one class of people
