Re: “Tree-sitters Declare McKay Victory

It's true, the trees would have been cut if not for our hard work. Why the disbelief and condescending tone?

Have we ever made false statements that would give cause for you to doubt us?

The victory was over the plan to clear-cut this part of the forest. It's really a win-win considering that Green Diamond intends to sell the land and therefor be paid for the trees, which have actually increased in value considering that they were allowed to grow for an additional 3 years.

After years of hard, risky, work and success against the odds, this type of coverage is insulting.

Re: “Shunka Moves On

Relatively quiet past three years? True, but don't discount the current tree-sits and the fact that they have so far succeeded in defending a grove of residual Old-growth Redwood and mature second growth for the past three years. Disastrous actions may get more media, and we're happy that our faces are not plastered everywhere, but do not underestimate what is happening in the Green Diamond arena.

Since the tree-sits began, Green Diamond has begun experimenting with logging methods akin to sustainable forestry and said they want to set up a community forest (totally non-commital) that just happens to encompass the grove we are defending.

Steven: It's not a contest.

Re: “Shooting Owls

Just Sayin, not so much readin' eh? The settlers were mentioned as having planted trees and stopped natives from their traditional burning practices that sustained the prairies. Quitcher knee-jerkin'.

Re: “California Redwood Co. Adapts to International Market

They are our forests, just like this is our planet. What happens to the forest happens to us. Humans are going to be an endangered species if we keep cutting down our forests at this speed and intensity.

Re: “California Redwood Co. Adapts to International Market

So the highest best use of our forests is disposable concrete form for unoccupied ghost cities in China?

Re: “Shipping Jobs to China?

Phil, I'm calling B.S. on your analysis. Since when did Humboldt county have a "worker-based impetus toward collective ownership and management of our natural resource commons." ? Why do you think all Humboldt environmentalists are psuedo-anarchist or primitivist? Do you believe EF! Humboldt is trying to end all logging in Humboldt? I can tell you we are not. We want restoration forestry to be implemented where appropriate, which is a huge percent of the land. What do you actually know about the situation? I think your full of it.

Re: “Vintage Arkley

Arkley's statement about timber exports implies that Green Diamond is exporting raw logs to China, but it's not clearly stated. Anyone know what Green Diamond is exporting to China?
