Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Family Arts Day

When: Sat., Feb. 10, 2 p.m. 2018
Price: $5, $2 seniors/students/military, free for Humboldt Arts Council members, children under 17 and families with EBT card
Children and families are invited to Family Arts Day at the Morris Graves Museum of Art on Saturday, February 10th at 2:00pm for an afternoon of animation story writing, painting, and drawing, sponsored by PBS North Coast. We will focus on the storytelling aspect of animation, creating characters and a place for your story to take place. Families will explore the backgrounds and characters in various animations by five local artists to inspire their own animations. Families will also have the opportunity to view a short film that introduces Disney’s Multiplane camera, which was the origin of cel animation. Once inspired, draw your own storyboards from your experience, imagination, or based on prompts. Then animate your story as you paint or draw your setting using multiple layers of transparent animation paper otherwise known as the cel animation technique. Museum educators will work with you and your child, focusing on painting and drawing techniques that add texture, depth and proportion to your animations.
