Mural artist Lucas Thornton teamed up with mural artist Kati Texas while painting on this side wall of Talisman Beads in Opera Alley in Old Town. Thornton’s mural was his image of “Sequoia Sunrise” and Texas did a creative and careful re-working of an existing Larry Laitman landscape.

A guided walk through Old Town to view the “Slugs of Eureka” on Friday afternoon was led by ceramic banana slug artists Shannon Sullivan (left) and Jessica Swan.

Ceramic banana slug artists Shannon Sullivan and Jessica Swan shared the backstory of how they came of up with the idea and how they created 13 unique ceramic banana slug artworks, offered a prize for correct answers to slug-related questions and answered questions.

Sullivan is an artist and educator based in Eureka, serving as a faculty member in the Art Department at College of the Redwoods since 2006. Her ceramic sculptures and wall objects have been featured in exhibitions nationally and internationally. Swan is also a local ceramic artist who has been throwing on the wheel since 2013, when she had her first opportunity to play with clay in a class with Sullivan at CR.
