Re: “... and after Wal-Mart

I worked at the mall myself for a year or so and at the time I was there, I happened to spend a lot of money there. There would be something i needed and i knew it was next door so on my breaks I would often wander and spend. This was little more than over a year ago and since I've moved locations, I have noticed that people really do not want to go to the mall. It is depressing to be in there and things are not getting any better. Stores are closing their doors faster than new ones are opening up and with the coming of Wal-Mart the only thing this event has attracted is a whole new clientele that most god fearing citizens of Humboldt County want nothing to do with. If I was really dying to get a really cheap (insert any household chinese manufactured item here) I could probably most certainly figure out how to get it without being assulted by enviroment at that store. I agree with the idea of the community and i wish we could find a way to get stores together in a more pleasant enviroment (like a covered section of old town Eureka) However maybe it's time to say goodbye to the idea of the Bayshore Mall. Cut our losses and do something useful and more enviromentally friendly with the land. Perhaps restore some of the wetland section and build an above ground boardwalk for runners and joggers? Just an idea. Anyway, from what I'm hearing Walmart is just feeding the problem and offering no solutions. We all knew we were going to have to deal with the standard WalMart problems, but it looks like now there are even more specific to our area.

Re: “Eureka Wal-Mart Confirmed

No good can come of this. Everything about wallmart is bad, the way they treat the community, the way they treat their employees, the cheap chinese crap that breaks in two minutes, has to be shipped internationally, slowly destroys our local and national economy, disassembles small businesses and owners who are trying to do good for their community and create something locally made and countless other reasons. And humboldt county doesn't need jobs, it needs employable people!!! I have been desperate to hire someone for weeks and not a single person has applied!!!!!!
