Re: “The Light on the Bluff

I wandered onto The Land in October of 1979. I had hitchiked from Burlington Vermont across America to Seattle Washington and saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time in. I had long hair and a floppy hippy hat. I wasn't really a hippy. I was from the 70's. I was dazed and confused! I had just recently answered an alter call at a Yakima rescue mission to accept Jesus as my personal savior. I was seeking a meal and a roof over my head. I was picking apples for the first time and the romanticism wore off really fast as the professional pickers took all the easy to get apples off my tree! After accepting Jesus I started praying for a place to land where I could read the Bible. I didn't know the ranch existed but one day hitchhiking turned into night and my ride told me about the place and drove me all the way out Hookton road to the Ranch. It was dinner time and I was swept up with hospitality a meal and a bunk without even one questioned asked. I had visited many communes across America but never one so friendly. I had finally found a home a refuge from all my travelling and found as they say Purpose and Vision ! I stayed 4 years and learned many things. I worked in the garden for a year and built a green house and a cash crop of head lettuce and garlics. I loved the little garden shed and had many meals there on an old makeshift table sitting in front of a window looking out across the eel river valley. I then went to work at Clean Sweep the chimney cleaning company the Ranch owned and ran. I am still cleaning chimneys today with my company called Roof Dancers in Flagstaff AZ. I did get to read the Bible over and over again . I find it to be all that and a bag of chips. Jesus comes alive on every page! My memories of the Lighthouse are so vivid and rich. This article brought me back to many good times. After clean sweep I became the work coordinator and every Tuesday was responsible for getting all 10,000 trip city newspapers delivered with whatever vehicles and people we had at the time! We always seemed to get the job done. I loved the fresh bread and the discussions about Jesus anytime anywhere. I still love Jesus with all my heart and soul and pray for the children of this generation to receive him. My passion has ed me to make a Jesus board game called Treasure in Heaven. If anybody is interested it can be seen at www.treasureinheavengame.com I am still in touch with a couple friends from the Ranch... who knew Facebook would be a thing?
