We own several hotels in the Fortuna and Arcata area. We have been doing our best to accommodate the brave men and women defending our lives and property, who do so at a tremendous risk to their own safety. While we could hold on to our rooms and sell them at our summer rates to tourists, we've chosen to take a hit in revenue and block out every available room for several days in advance in anticipation of the need for these heroes. We watch these men and women come in, barely able to hold their head up due to exhaustion (some have been on the line for four days) and welcome them to a hot shower and a comfortable bed.
The reasoning for some of these hotels refusing to make accommodations is because during the off season, these same Cal-Fire and National firefighters often choose to stay at the higher-end hotels, bypassing those hotels that do their best to find rooms for these brave souls regardless of time of year.
