Re: “About that Mountain Lion Video ...

I heard a mountain lion screaming like a woman being brutally assaulted when I was about 7 while camping in Red’s Meadows, California. So the next time I heard it about 20 years later in the middle of the night at our ranch on Cypress Mountain, California I did not have to go outside to rescue the poor woman like my wife wanted me to. Literally the next day we began seeing lions come down a trail from higher up the mountain occasionally. Several months after the first sighting I was driving out our driveway which was cut into the hillside and a teenage mountain lion leaped across the road right in front of my Subaru wagon heading downhill. I slammed on the brakes and grabbed my Nikon off the passenger seat hoping for a glimpse of it running away. As I passed in front of my car I came to the edge of the road and the young beast crouched behind a thistle bush there not more than three feet away. We were both pretty shocked and as I bolted over the hood of my car like a TV detective I caught a glimpse of the cat bounding into the chaparral below me. No pictures were taken. Later in life I saw three jaguars at different times in different countries and got a picture of one of them in Miskitia. They were far bigger than any wild mountain lion I ever saw.

Re: “Local Republic Party Chair Says No Comment on Debate, White Supremacy, Transition of Power, T-S reports

Not wanting their fan club to know what they believe in is all the GOP has had left for years. And this guy is a breathe of fresh air in that rather than lie he essentially pleads the Fifth.

Re: “UPDATE: Caltrans: Copyright Contract Grants Rights to Artists

I am leery that Caltrans wants to reproduce the art work else where and do it properly with 15 workers involved and traffic stops for the 7 weeks of work. One guy in four days makes a mockery of civil planning.

Re: “'Worn Out'

A needle exchange is different than a needle give away. The people involved in the last dangerous fiasco should be banned from involvement in the coming fiasco. There should be bigger consequences for being responsible for dirty needles lying around in our public places than for selling liquor or tobacco products to underage customers, in my opinion.

Re: “SECOND UPDATE: Rock Throwing Assault Suspect Arrested

It seems like fewer and fewer people feel the need to control themselves. This fellow needs at the very least a 72 psychological hold.

Re: “Injury Traffic Collision Involving HCSO Patrol Vehicle

I have seen police officers of all ilks texting or talking on handheld phones occasionally while driving. I do do not believe they are anymore adept at it than the rest of us and maybe less so because the rest of us are only watching out or looking for an address but are we are not as a rule looking at every passerby as a potential criminal. So I would check his phone if I were investigating. That said, I have never lived anywhere else where pedestrians are so oblivious to their surroundings, especially apparently indestructible , and I hate to judge people by their garb and hygiene and manner of locomotion, homeless drug addicts.
