The Coastal Naturalist Training is a 6-week course designed to immerse curious community members in our local coastal ecosystems and inspire stewardship of Northern California’s extraordinary natural communities. This training welcomes everyone from novice naturalists to expert scientists as we cover a wide range of perspectives and subjects from indigenous land use to intertidal ecology. this year's training will include a mixture of weekday Zoom lectures and distanced weekend field trips led by local “ologists.” These guest instructors include geologists, botanists, zoologists, and long-time hobby naturalists.Participants should be able to access online Zoom lectures and hike several miles in soft sand, steep trails, or slippery rocks while carrying their own supplies (field notebook, water and snacks). We will be traveling at a comfortable pace, but will be in the field for up to 4 hours per field trip. Participants should also have access to transportation to various field trip locations from Manila to Trinidad. Register online at friendsofthedunes.org/programs
