Coastal Cleanup Month

This year Coastal Cleanup Day will look a little different. In order to maintain the safety of our community, Coastal Cleanup Day will now be every Saturday in September instead of a single large event as we strive to be entirely social-distance friendly. As the community navigates the pandemic, we at the Northcoast Environmental Center are embracing the necessary changes and focusing on the bright side. Instead of having site captains, individuals or groups from the same household will participate in their own neighborhood cleanup. Participants are encouraged to wear masks, reusable protective gloves, and use trash pickers if available. We’re pleased to be promoting sustained activism; by encouraging participation on every Saturday in September we are working toward creating a trash-picking habit that will keep you coming back for more. Participants are encouraged to focus their energy to help clean the coast by sweeping through their own neighborhoods and local parks, creeks, streams, rivers, and the coast (where accessible) to help prevent single-use plastic items and other litter from polluting the environment and flowing into the ocean.
