CNPS - Our Treasured Coastal Prairies - Ecology and Maintenance

When: Wed., Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m. 2021
The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) invites the public to a Zoom presentation, "Our Treasured Coastal Prairies, Ecology and Maintenance," on Wednesday November 10 at 7:30 P.M. Visit for a link to the presentation. Coastal prairies are only a small part of California's grasslands, but provide natural beauty and are important in supporting wildlife, pollinators, and carbon sequestration. The influence of summer fog means that they can host greater species diversity than grasslands in the interior. Justin Luong, a graduate student at UC Santa Cruz and a director of the California Native Grassland Association, recently surveyed 36 coastal prairies to monitor the effects of restoration efforts. He will show examples of the prairies and their flora, describe the many threats to them, and report on the results of management efforts. Climate change, drought, and local adaptations are part of the story. CNPS hosts free public presentations on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May. During COVID restrictions, programs are held via Zoom at 7:30 P.M. 707-822-2015,
