Climbing in the Trinity Alps

I want to live
With deliberateness
Like climbing a rock face.
Each foothold,
Every handhold,
Must be deliberate,
Must be certain.

I want to live
In that moment
I grasp solid rock
With my hand.
I am tired, but I cannot
Think of anything else
Except that firm hold.

I want you to love me,
Like my fingers
Wrapped around that piece
Of granite. I want
The mere thought of you
To hold the rocks
firm under my feet.
