Re: “Connections to a Conspiracy

Actually, reports are the CCHI campaign to legalize marijuana in California collected a whopping 300,000 signatures. If any of your readers have petitioned for a cause, they know what an amazing feat this is. Ever since the all-volunteer 1972 marijuana legalization measure made the California ballot, and afterwards lawmakers upped the percentage of voters needed to sign future measures, only funded initiatives have succeeded. It's too bad that the farmers who profit from their cash crop don't see the wisdom of contributing to broadening their market to marijuana retail shops, as Coloradoans now enjoy (both in income and tax revenue), or for fighting for, say, employment rights for their customers (who can now lose their jobs for testing "dirty" even if they have a medical recommendation, or in states that have fully legalized). It's hard to build a movement, or an industry, among only the unemployed or alter-employed. But hey, it's good for an endless stream of snarky jokes (or calls for them).

Re: “Teenage Wasteland

Interesting about that IQ study: http://www.hightimes.com/read/pot-iq-flawe…

I meet a lot of people who wish they hadn't started smoking pot quite so early in life; and others who seem to do just fine with it (like Steve Jobs, who started at least four industries and was a teenage pothead). For Brown to say "potheads" can't work 24 hours a day...well, I guess that's his new model for the workplace. Most adult marijuana smokers work, pay taxes, and should have the right to smoke a joint in the evening, and be free of insults from their elected officials.

Re: “Humboldt Growers' Bad Reputation

Were these water thefts ever tracked to pot growers? Wasn't it determined a water truck would have been necessary to steal the schools' water?

I personally witnessed a water company truck siphoning from a water hydrant in Garberville one day a few years ago, am told that's not uncommon.

Is this being investigated, or just blamed on pot growers (like the Yosemite fire almost was, until it turned out to be a deer hunter).
