The Bulgarian Folk Band, Kabile, returns to Arcata for a concert of traditional music on Bulgarian folk instruments. Singer Donka Koleva brings her award-winning vocal talents with songs of Thrace. The performance features three unique instruments: the gadulka, a bowed rebec; the kaval, an endblown shepherd's flute; and the gaida, a goatskin bagpipe. The audience will hear music in complex rhythms, done in traditional arrangements.
Members of the Humboldt Folk Dancers will hold an easy "Balkan Basics" dance lesson prior to the concert. The second half of the evening will be devoted to dance music.
