American painter Morris Graves spent the last 30 years of his life in Humboldt County. His paintings, mostly of birds, animals, and nature, are famous throughout the world. Less known is his reclusive life near Loleta, or his writings—passionate and revelatory of his stance as a war-resister, an environmentalist, a 1950’s gay man. Dell’Arte’s Joan Schirle conducts a reading of Graves’ letters, also featuring the words of the many women who helped him realize his vision.
