Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Barrie Love Art Show Staff Pick

When: Oct. 1-31 2020
Mixed media photographs on canvas. Artist statement: My primary subject is the female form. For many years I have been photographing women, usually solo, in various locations. I look for various degrees of mystery, intrigue, humor, and generally an image that the viewer, and myself, won’t get tired of. Women in settings that are everyday, or the unusual. Sometimes telling a story or leaving you to figure it out. I started using my photographic images as a template for painting. Some images are from black and white film, from many years ago and others are more recent, done with a digital camera. I found that using metallic paints had a magical way of catching light. Depending on where you stand, time of day, it almost makes the image come alive and look 3D. I also love the variation of textures from the paint, and sometimes I use found objects and go the collage route. This goes back to my early days of drawing, painting, collage and hand tinting my black and white prints with oils. I love figurative surrealism, contemporary, fantasy and pop art. And as all artists and photographers, I have my favorites that have inspired me. I am a member of the Redwood Arts Association and have received several awards from their exhibitions. I’m also a member of Redwood Camera Club and have participated in their shows at different locations. I was also included in the juried photography show “2020 Vision” at the Morris Graves Museum. Last but not least, I’ve been in local shows for Arts Alive in Humboldt County. :-) You can contact me at blove@lovelights.biz or message through my Facebook page, Barrie Love Art and Photography, or barrieloveart on Instagram 12 x18” prints are available for $80.00 as well as other canvas pieces, at The Space, next to Art Center Frame Shop 616 2nd Street Eureka.
