Re: “Celery at Center Stage

Have you made cream of celery soup? It is one of my very favorite to make, light, flavorful. I even like the one that comes in Andy Warhol's brand. I love celery, raw or cooked.

Re: “'Tis the Season for Tamales

Making tamales at Christmas is a family tradition, my 90 yr. old mother still makes them. The trouble I've had living in the northcoast for over 40 years is buying fresh ground masa. El Pueblo Market used to travel to the Santa Rosa area and bring back orders for the fresh masa during the holidays. They stopped doing that before they lost their market to the fire. So what I have resorted to is when visiting southern Cal. I make a visit to a local Mexican market where one can watch the soaked hominy being ground and sold either
plain or prepared. The aroma in these markets is just amazingly wonderful. I bring the masa back to Humboldt county frozen, packed in dry ice. I used to hold tamale making parties but find it easier to make them by myself or with just one other friend. To me, the fresh masa makes the best tamales and it just doesn't seem like Christmas without the smell of steaming pots of tamales cooking on Christmas Eve.

Re: “UPDATE: Arcata Council Directs Staff to Bring Back Gun Safety Ordinance

I am proud of these students. The upcoming generations aren't going to tolerate the violence and irresponsibility of some gun owners.

Re: “A Pie to Take with You

This sounds so much like my mom's cream cheese pie which I favor over any other cheese cakes. Thanks for making me inspired to make one for the weekend.

Re: “Cabbage Burgers

I have been making these for 35 years. Found recipe in cookbook and the only difference between the recipes is that the one I used also called for caraway seed in the filling. My ex loved these in his lunch bag, we took them to the beach for picnics. Never tried with salsa but loved them with mustard. They freeze pretty well too.
