Heads up, Humboldt:
While the county's masking mandate has been lifted, Public Health is still strongly recommending masking indoors in public, social distancing and "avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces." COVID-19 is still with us, so be sure to check the protocols at event venues.

Northtown Books welcomes Rudy Martin for a discussion and a book signing featuring his two most recent books. Seaside Stories is a collection of short stories based in Seaside, California's small Black population during the 1950's. It is centered around the family of a strong and enterprising Black minister and the close but tumultuous relationship with his older son.

Martin's previous book, Natural-Born Proud: A Revery, is about a young man from Monterey and his younger brother go on their first deer hunt with their minister father and his friends.

After helping initiate Washington State University's first African American Studies program, S. R "Rudy" Martin was a founding faculty member of Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where he taught American studies and was an administrator until retiring in 1998. His memoir, On the Move: A Black Family's Western Saga was published in 2009.
