The wearing of masks is not to stop viruses, but aerosol droplets which may contain thousands of virus particles. We generate these particles when we cough, sneeze, talk, or even breathe. It isn't to protect the wearer so much as those they come into contact with. SARS-coV-2 is in ADDITION to those the "unavoidable" risks like auto accidents, and seasonal influenza. Outside air and sunlight are indeed excellent preventatives, but Safeway, and Casinos aren't pumping in sunshine yet.
I think folks like to jump on the racist bandwagon. I for one want people to wear masks in public. I do. It just makes sense, even if they are largely ineffective. Even if the good they do is small it is still good. I think the woman with the sign was making a very non racist statement. It didn't matter what the color of the person the muzzle was on, slavery was reprehensible. She expressed horror at the idea of being forced to wear a mask/muzzle. While I don't agree, to me, it wasn't about racism, but coerced behavior.
It would seem that the whole concept of probation is flawed. In this case, allowing a felon out who went on to perpetrate other misdeeds. If he was a person of interest in the murder case his probation officer SHOULD have known his whereabouts. I wonder what is the cost differential between incarceration and administering probation. It seems like a government office that could be done away with if they kept prisoners in prison for their stipulated sentences. It is probably too ingrained into the system to do away with now, but so many of the reports I see are about parolees violating the terms of their parole to go onto commit further crimes.
Thanks for the informative article.
It has been my contention for some time that media might have a positive influence if someone would start a campaign reaching out to those disaffected dangerous folks letting them know they are actually ill. No, it would not stop all the violence, but if it prevented one attack that would be worth the effort. Tell the guy sitting in his basement tweaking his weaponry, imagining himself as a cultural hero striking back at his oppressors that he needs serious help and his actions will end badly. Once in a while it might prevent an attack from ever occurring and therefore save not only his victims, but himself as well. It is something that can be enacted without legislation, permission, or rancor from any political group. (any that opposed it would paint themselves as mentally ill, letting us know who they are.) It should be inexpensive and popular. The message is simple and obvious. "Wanting to hurt people you do not know is sick, and needs to be treated."
How far back does guilt go? I learned that my genetics contain some neanderthal blood, a species driven to extinction over 20,000 years ago. Some of my ancestors were very likely abused by the Romans.
Re: “Certified Hair Salons, Barber Shops Cleared to Reopen Monday”
This article, while informative, could have included some of the names of the businesses that will open, so we might make reservations or at least plans to patronize them.
