Re: “Car Hearts — Cruz'n Eureka Rolls Into Town

It's great how the older generation is showing today's impressionable youths how to save the planet by one day having their own gas-hog fetish.

Old timers understand that nothing will change until we burn up the rest of the cheap oil.

They're heroes.

They should title it "Artist's Fiddle While The Planet Melts".

Re: “'Manipulated'

It's great that Trump has inspired pro-fascists like Rick to come out from under their rocks so we can see who they are and understand just how dangerous they can be. Again.

Re: “'Working Toward Peace'

Thank you Ms. Taylor for another insightful editorial of the bigger picture and larger context widely self-censored in today's press, your well-informed views are especially annoying to those who dislike anyone that takes their citizenship seriously.

Thank you for that too.

With a misanthrope for president, democratic victories should be overwhelming, instead, the primaries are promising narrow gains this November.

Following 40 years of complicity in, and compromise with, the republican agenda of job exports, offshore tax havens, mass-deregulation, mass-privatization, mass-public divestment, mass-corporate bailouts, mass-incarceration, perpetual wars for oil...and the plethora of imperial interventions abroad, covert, overt, hot, cold and tepid...

...The DNC sees no alternative to their anti-Trump strategy, a president they helped elect.

It's not too late to return the party to its roots by adopting Bernie Sander's platform and begin earning-back some of the 70% of U.S. adults who never vote, described by Jimmy Carter as "the greatest threat to democracy" in his 1979 "Energy Independence" speech.

Unfortunately, returning to a party of the working people with an unprecedented nationwide voter registration drive is anathema to the millionaires in Congress beholden to the highest bidders and the military industrial complex.

Change must begin in our communities where we find our own corrupt developers
and entrenched elites, like Trump, dominating nearly every elected and appointed office.

Re: “Eureka Weighs the Future of its Nonprofit Needle Exchange Program

Our council-members need to respond in-kind to this community's bigoted minority and their hate-calls by using their extensive campaign/contribution list of supporters and ask that they attend controversial meetings.

It's the one thing bigots cannot tolerate is being badly outnumbered.

Re: “Eureka Weighs the Future of its Nonprofit Needle Exchange Program

Thank You!

Routine reporting like this is desperately needed to defuse the divisiveness and blatant bigotry that comes from ignorance and not from the exchange program.

Future reporting could include a phone call to a wealth of local and statewide health and academic professionals and social psychologists who will tell you that our streets are being littered by insulin needles from an unprecedented diabetes epidemic afflicting increasing numbers of children and teens.

Every other industrialized nation treats addiction as a health issue with more appropriate, and more effective, compassionate responses.

Furthermore, you could take a bucket full of heroin to old town and the number of addicts and overdoses would hardly change...eliminating half the liquor stores will not reduce the number of alcoholics and alcohol related deaths.

Statistically, every 4th home on your block houses an addict abusing alcohol, prescription or illicit narcotics.

We should not tolerate bigots who think that addicts should be treated punitively just because they cannot afford to conceal it.

Re: “'A Deluge of Expletives'

If city council members sent e-mails to their supporters to attend controversial meetings it would show the bullies that our representatives are not alone...(it's like garlic to vampires).

In a sign of desperation, this November's right-wing candidates are relying on hate to rally their base. Most of the needles discarded on America's streets are from the growing diabetes epidemic, not addicts or the homeless.

Unless local media steps up their game, it will probably work.
