Re: “CR Trustees Appoint Dr. Utpal Goswami Acting President

Utpal Goswami is an excellent administrator. Finally, FINALLY we'll have some real leadership at CR.

Re: “Stress Fracture

Wow. I certainly hope that the "firm rebuttal" rant wasn't from a CR administrator. It demonstrates quite a lack of decorum, leadership, and maturity when this person describes his or her colleagues on campus as "jerks" and "whiners." I will, however, be very specific about why I described Marsee as unethical: he lies to people, he takes credit for other people's work, and he blames other people for his own mistakes. Of course the faculty will "tattle" on Marsee if he disregards our district's established Board policies, Administrative Regulations, and state law. We are, in fact, professionally obligated to defend these rules--as is anyone affiliated with CR. "Insult to Injury" is correct in that we must work together with humility and camaraderie in order to solve all our accreditation issues. Marsee has repeatedly demonstrated--with his "My Way or the Highway" attitude--that this is going to be very difficult for him. Maybe he will finally learn from his many mistakes. Good luck, Dr. Marsee.

Re: “Stress Fracture

I have plenty of pride in my job and in my institution, and I've been receiving (and answering) students' emails for weeks. (They know how to contact me.) We as faculty are ethically and professionally obligated to keep in regular contact with our students, and do so in a variety of ways--whether in person or electronically. The anger you see in the faculty right now does not stem from a lack of pride for CR, but rather it comes from Marsee's brusque, dictatorial, and unethical manner in dealing with all of his "underlings"--and I'm not just talking about the faculty. I feel for your hard work and low pay as a staff member, but also as staff member, I bet you've had to endure Marsee's poor communication skills, angry outbursts, and irrational behavior as well. Marsee simply won't play by the established rules of our district. He makes up his own rules as he goes and expects everyone else to reflexively follow along--even if these rules defy Board Policy, Administrative Regulation, and California Education Code. It's a colossal problem for CR.

Re: “Stress Fracture

Marsee's area of expertise is spending money like it will never end, and I am very doubtful that the program review process will ever truly guide his planning or budgeting. He disregarded program review last year, and we should all be closely watching to see if he disregards it this year as well. If he does it again, he will be (yet again) violating one of our principal accreditation directives.

Re: “Stress Fracture

This situation is analogous to the free-wheeling, unregulated banking industry just before the crash. You are the regulators here. You must step in and investigate these concerns. The whole community is dependent on you.

Re: “Stress Fracture

Marsee simply thinks that field trips and Frisbee Golf and athletics and wine-growing and art collecting and real estate are simply more "fun" than the sustained and detailed concentration it will take to work through our very serious accreditation problems. Our accreditation has now largely been relegated to his inexperienced (or inattentive) senior staff. It's extremely alarming.

Re: “Stress Fracture

Step two: Make Marsee fully concentrate on fulfilling (in a transparent, collegial, and operationally meaningful way) the recommendations of the ACCJC. They will be back for another visit this October, as we all know.
