I'll tell you what, I associate the Oyster Fest with being in the middle of a drunken crowd of obnoxious college kids - while having to watch my every step, keeping my eyes on the ground to dodge the piles of barf. Hell. Not my idea of fun.
Thank goodness she was ousted by the public vote. Now the improved City Council can move forward instead of backward.
This article neglects to mention the third party that has something to do with the decision to temporarily shut the season down until a take permit can be obtained. The Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Association (Noah Oppenheim) is the third party. Mention of this organization in the article would serve to provide a more robust and truthful context behind this story. The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Biological Diversity against CDFW in Federal court and the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermens Associations, which represents crabbers, intervened in the lawsuit.
This is like a remake of the late 1960s/early 1970s where developers attempted to take the coast of California (AKA the public commons) away from the people and use it for their private benefit. This is the exact reason why the CCC was established and I can't thank them enough for their work.
Religion and government do not mix. I find it to be irresponsible governance when a highly religious and extreme right wing evangelical politician is making decisions for the people. Those decisions will no doubt be skewed toward the favor and benefit of a few, not the populace as a whole.
