Will I have to register my basil and tomatoes too? And my medicinal echinacea? Hypocrisy and greed are thick around these parts.
I find it absolutely disgusting that EPD would even consider a program that uses starvation as a punishment tool. Can you say, "obvious human rights violation" boys and girls? But then again, EPD has quite the reputation for human rights violations.
" it looked like a neighborhood people had given up on.
No, Cap'n... it's PEOPLE (you know, humans- like you and me) that people have given up on.
I was in Seattle recently, and I saw homeless people. They have respect for their city and its people. They pick up litter and throw it in the trash. They panhandle, but not in your face. They say 'please' and 'thank you'.
Some of them steal, but so do bankers and Naomi Judd. They have problems with drugs and alcohol. They have pasts.
The difference between here and there? Seattle feeds, clothes, and respects its people. They can take a shower. They can wash their clothes. They can sleep at night, sit in a park, share a joint, walk their dog- without police harassment.
Another 'move-along' campaign won't help the situation any more than the last one did. Helping them won't create more problems, but harassing people with nothing left to lose is unwise. But the mayor and the police want the problems to grow, so they can ask for more funding.
And where does that funding come from? You. And me. Hate and greed. Us and them. Haves and have-nots. These ideals make up the culture of our lawmakers and the street gang that enforces them.
Such a 'Christian' society we have here. I bet your Master Satan is proud.
Sure, you'll be in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws when you sell out our communities to New York based speculators and land grabbers. It's completely legal to profit from the housing market's instability. You may even pay your 'fair share' of taxes. The charitable donations improve your image with a good tax write-off as a bonus.
Meanwhile, the American Dream of owning a home (and maybe an acre or five of land) is alive and well for anybody with a couple million to spare. Which is not us. A 'fixer' runs for $250-500k these days. The 'sweat equity' will cost, well... Have you seen the movie 'The Money Pit'?
That's exactly the people that our government is working for- realtors and developers. And Big Tobacco. They don't work for the people; they never have.
Not surprising in the least. Bill Gates is a longtime legalization advocate. Microsoft money has gone to organizations such as NORML, Seattle Hempfest, Initiative 502 (WA state weed legalization), as well as funding the construction and maintenance of the Seattle Public Library.

Fretwell and Rossbacher. Two peas in a pod. Destructive decisions based on greed, with no thought nor care of repercussions. Will there be any repercussions? No! I bet they can hold their silences and conciliatory tones, respectively, longer than the angry mob can stay angry and organized. There will be a few more forums, a few more meetings, a few more news articles... Then it will fade away; the new status quo.
